Justice Manuela Harding Sentences Justice Kallon To 10 Years Imprisonment

Judiciary of Sierra Leone Communications, Main Law Courts Building in Freetown, 17th June, 2025: High Court Judge, Honourable Justice Manuela AJ Harding, has sentenced Jusu Kallon fondly called “Justice” to ten (10) years imprisonment for House Breaking and Larcency.

In less than three months, Justice Harding completed this matter, which was assigned to her by His Lordship the Honourable Chief Justice in March, 2025. As part of her commitment to speedy trial, the learned Judge assured other litigants that her intention is to complete all the matters before her. She therefore encouraged the State and the Defence Counsel to support the Court to enhance speedy delivery of justice.

The convict was before the Court on a-two-count-indictment of House Breaking and Larcency contrary to Section 26 (1) of the Larcency Act, 1916.

According to the particulars of offence, Justice Jusu Kallon was alleged to have entered into the dwelling house of Josephus Choe Junior Mamie at W7 Spur Loop in Freetown in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone and stole therein perfume, t-shirts, one solar light, bags, pairs of trousers, one Bluetooth speaker, Le. 200 cash and wristwatch among other items.

Representing the State, AT Rogers applied for trial by Judge alone Pursuant to Section 144 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Act, 1965 as repealed and replaced by Section 3 of the Criminal Procedure Amendment Act No. 19 of 1981. No objection was raised, and the Court granted his application.

The charges were read and explained to the accused, Justice Jusu Kallon, in Krio. He pleaded guilty and begged for mercy.

In her judgment, Honourable Justice Manuela AJ Harding sentenced the accused to ten years imprisonment; count one five years and count two five years.

“Both terms to be served concurrently,” said Honourable Justice MAJ Harding, reiterating that “the rationale of this conviction is to serve as a deterrent to the accused and future potential offenders.”

In her compensation Order, she ordered that the accused pay Twenty Thousand Leones (Le. 20,000) as cost to Complainant Josephus Choe Junior Mamie. The Judge granted the restitution of the stolen items or its monetary value to the Complainant.
