Judiciary of Sierra Leone Communications, CJ’s Chambers, Freetown, 16th November, 2022: Supreme Court Judge who was recently appointed ECOWAS Court Judge, Honourable Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma has taken formal leave of the Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards.
In a very unique ceremony attended by some Supreme Court Judges, Hon. Justice N.C Browne-Marke, Hon. Justice Vivian Solomon, Hon. Justice M.F. Deen Tarawally; Court of Appeal Judges, Hon. Justice Jamesina E. King, Hon. Justice Ivan Sesay, Hon. Justice Komba Kamanda, Hon. Justice Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens and some senior management staff members, Chief Justice Edwards remarked that Justice Sengu Koroma is the second person to occupy such enviable position.
Before the toast of good health, the Hon. Chief Justice assured that he has no doubt that Justice Sengu Koroma will adequately represent his country and, by extension, the Judiciary of Sierra Leone.
“I’m always proud of your high level of professionalism so go well and continue to make us proud,” Chief Justice Edwards said.
Justice Sengu Koroma, in his farewell remarks, firstly thanked the Chief Justice and his colleagues for the excellent working relationship, adding that he will always be grateful to the Chief Justice for providing the required leadership for the Judiciary to move forward.
Justice Sengu Koroma later received a farewell gift of appreciation from the Chief Justice through Hon. Justice Jamesina King.
Justice Sengu Koroma and Justice Claudio Monteiro Goncalves from Cape Verde were sworn-in by the Chairman of the Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), His Excellency President Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea Bissau at a ceremony held in Bissau on Thursday, 6th October 2022.
Justice Sengu Koroma is currently a Supreme Court Judge of Sierra Leone. He firstly graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and History in 1985.
His thirst to become a lawyer compelled him to gain admission again at the Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. In 1990 he graduated with BL at the Sierra Leone Law School. His insatiable desire for higher and quality education enrolled him on his Master of Laws with Merit in 2009 from the University of London.
As a Barrister and Solicitor, he was Head Maanah Chambers. He was the Company Secretary of the National Development Bank and later became acting Director of Administration from 1997 to 1999. In 2002, he gained an appointment into NASSIT, and was later promoted to Director, Legal Affairs and the Board Secretary of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).
He is a Lecturer Department of Law at the University of Sierra Leone.
He was called to the Bench in April 2015 as a High Court Judge. He is currently the President of the Industrial and Social Security Court.
