{"id":997,"date":"2021-08-11T12:11:45","date_gmt":"2021-08-11T12:11:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.Judiciary.gov.sl\/?p=997"},"modified":"2021-10-05T15:57:04","modified_gmt":"2021-10-05T15:57:04","slug":"chief-justice-returns-home-from-conference-of-chief-justices-in-egypt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.Judiciary.gov.sl\/?p=997","title":{"rendered":"Chief Justice Returns Home from Conference of Chief Justices in Egypt"},"content":{"rendered":"Electoral Justice and the frequent resort to Judiciaries to settle electoral\ndisputes as presenting a burden\/challenge on Constitutional and Supreme Courts\nrequiring the upholding of the highest virtues of independence, integrity,\naccountability etc.;\n\n\n\nEnvironmental Law and the process towards Greening the Economy with emphasis\non Judges being protectors of the Environment which is the wealth of the\nso-called poor and property of every citizen and the upholding of Environmental\nRule of Law with a view to alleviating poverty and with a view to establishing\na Green Economy;\n\n\n\nAbolition of terrorism with a stringent posture from African Judiciaries.\n\n\n\nThe Conference ended with a Declaration, referred to the Cairo Declaration,\nwith participants drawn from thirty-five (35) countries from the continent of\nAfrica.\n\n\n\n“Applauding African Judiciaries from across the continent who have and\nare still showing absolute dedication to their Judicial duties despite the real\nhealth and social risks posed by COVID-19 Pandemic;\n\n\n\nDemanding progress from all in the area of fighting terrorism in all its\nforms given that it erodes the Democratic foundation of our societies, creates\ninstability, threatens the safety and well-being of our citizens and residents\nand hinders sustainable development for generations to come, protecting the\nenvironment, ensuring Judicial ethics and electoral justice to play out;\n\n\n\nRe-emphasing capacity building through continuous Judicial training and\ncontinuing professional development to build further capacities for Judges and\nCourt Administrators;\n\n\n\nReiterating a conscious commitment to take all necessary measures to ensure\nthe effective application of the Rule of Law in each country given that it is\nindispensable for the prevalence of social justice as a necessary pre-condition\nfor all the enjoyment of fundamental rights by all our citizens and an\nimportant factor in support sustainable development; and\n\n\n\nCalling for increased co-operation among Judiciaries in all these areas and\nmore.”\n\n\n\nThe Cairo Declaration, also looked at the exceptional challenges confronting\nthe African Judiciary in the COVID-19 era and the priority measures including\nvirtual hearing and proper IT Technology needed to overcome them.\n\n\n\nThe Conference attracted distinguished personalities including Honourable\nDr. Hanafy Aly Gebaly, The Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives,\nformer Chief Justice of Egypt who was the founder of such High-Level meetings;\nChief Justices and Presidents of Constitutional Courts, their Vice and Judges\nof Supreme and Constitutional Courts.\n\nSierra\nLeone\u2019s Chief Justice who was part of the conference repositioned the Sierra\nLeone Judiciary at the international conference to market the many reforms. He\nhas since resumed work on 24th June, 2021 with full energy to make the\ncountry\u2019s justice system accessible amid other sustainable reforms.<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
