Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice Administers Oath To President Elect

Pursuant to Section 46, subsections 4 &5 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, Act No. 6 of 1991, the Chief Justice, His Lordship, Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards has administered the Presidential Oath of Office to the President Elect, Julius Maada Bio.

As provided for by the country’s Constitution in Section 42 (3), a person elected to the office of the President under this section shall assume that office on the day upon which he is declared elected by the Returning Officer. It went further to explain in section 46 (4) that upon assumption of office, the President-elect shall take and subscribe the Oath for execution of his functions as President.

Meanwhile, the Constitution finally mandated the Hon. Chief Justice in section 46(5) to immediately administer the said oath on the same day.
