26 Judges Assigned Nationwide

Sierra Leone, 24th May, 2023: Pursuant to Section 131 (3) of the Sierra Leone Constitution 1991, Act No. 6 of 1991, His Lordship the Honourable Chief Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards has assigned twenty-six (26) Judges of the Superior Court of Judicature to preside over the Elections Offences and Petitions Court across the country and related offences during the electoral cycle.

“The Judiciary under my leadership believes in the supremacy of the Rule of Law and Access to timely Justice for all players in the electioneering process, which is the cornerstone of electoral integrity,” said the Chief Justice, adding that, “during this period, our mandate will be to interpret and apply the laws of Sierra Leone in ensuring impartial justice under law, thereby protecting the rights and liberties of all persons seeking justice.”

This is part of ensuring effective and efficient decentralization process.
