Judiciary Distributes IEC Materials In South-East Region On Public Education

As part of its public education and outreach strategy, the Judiciary of Sierra Leone is currently distributing and pasting Information, Education and Communications (IEC) Materials in the Southern and Eastern Regions of the country.

With support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other development partners, Six set of different inscripted messages such as #What is the Elections Offences and Petitions Court and How and Where To Access The Courts are all on the IEC Materials to educate literates and non-literates public.

Received by the Judiciary’s Outreach Officer in charge of the Eastern Region, Christian Amara, one thousand five hundred IEC materials were distributed in various prominent locations including all police stations and posts, lorry parks, some ghettos, correctional centers, markets, and some Government offices among others.

In the Southern Region, the Outreach Officer, Melisa Fortune, received the Communications head, Elkass Sannoh, who led the distribution process.

It should be noted that the Judiciary facilitated the transport allowance for some youths who were very pivotal in pasting the IEC materials on the walls in all locations.

According to the Hon. Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Desmond Babatunde Edwards, this move is part of the Judiciary’s preparedness to handle elections offences and petitions brought before the Courts.

“It will help to raise awareness and educate our public,” said Hon. Chief Justice Edwards, adding that, “our outreach and public education is effective now than ever before.” He thanked the UNDP and partners for the timely support.
