JUDICIAL WEEK: Justice Cosmotina Jarrett Imprisons Ganged Robbery Leader to 70 years, Discharges 2

Main Law Courts Building, Freetown 6th September, 2023: High Court Judge, Honourable Justice Cosmotina Jarrett presiding over cases in the ongoing Access to Justice Through Judicial Week has sentenced convict Abdul  Koroma, a leader of a ganged robbery, to 70 years imprisonment.

Accused Abdul Koroma was brought before the Court to answer to two counts indictment of Conspiracy to commit Robbery and Robbery with Aggravation contrary to section 23(1)(a) of the Larceny Act 1916.

During the course of the trial, accused Abdul Koroma was identified by the Victims; Mala Tilwani and Lokash as the leader of a gang of eight robbers who being armed with machetes, attacked, robbed and instilled fear in them.

One of the victims, Lokash, was severely beaten up and one of his fingers almost severely injured when the armed robbers tried to remove a silver ring from his hand.

The accused Abdul Koroma and his cohorts’ carted away property valued over five Hundred Million Leones old notes.

Honourable Justice Cosmotina Jarrett also discharged 2 accused persons, Ibrahim Conteh and Alusine Bangura.

Accused Ibrahim Conteh was before the Court for the offence of Larceny in a dwelling House contrary to section 13(a) of the Larceny Act 1916, while Accused Alusine Bangura was also tried for the offence of Wounding with Intent contrary to section 18 of the offense Against the Person Act 1861.

Honourable Justice Cosmotina Jarrett discharged the two accused persons for Want of Prosecution.
