JUDICIAL WEEK: Justice Bawoh To Complete 34 Sexual Offence Cases In Makeni

Mena Hills, Makeni City, 4th September, 2023: The Makeni Resident High Court Judge covering Bombali and Tonkolili Districts, Honourable Justice Mohamed Bawoh, has imprisoned five Convicts who were before the Court to answer to Sexual Penetration and its related offences.

Justice Mohamed Bawoh who’s poised to complete 34 Sexual Offence cases on the Cause List during the ongoing Access to Justice Through Judicial Week, is also handling 13 other Murder cases.

Among the 34 Sexual Offences cases are meeting a child with sexual intent; rape, sexual penetration and meeting a child for Sexual Purposes.

Accused Bobby Sesay, was charged with the offence of Rape contrary to section 6(ii) of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act. No. 12 of 2012 as repealed and replaced by Section 2 of the Sexual Offences Amendment Act. No. 8 of 2019.

According to the particulars of offence, accused Bobby Sesay, on the 6th day of November, 2020 at Massamani village in the Tonkolili District, North-East Region of the Republic of Sierra Leone engaged in Sexual Penetration with 25-year-old woman, without her consent.

Narrating her ordeal in Court, the victim said she left her husband’s home at Kemedugu village for her ranch. On her way, she met accused Bobby Sesay who grabbed her from her neck and requested to have Sexual intercourse with him.

“I refused his request and he pushed me to the ground, removed my clothes and threatened me with a knife,” the victim said, adding that “he forcefully inserted his penis into my vagina and had sex with me.”

She said even when she was shouting, no one came to her rescue and that the accused later ran away.

She continued that she went to report to her husband and her husband in turn reported to the Chief who admonished them to report to the Police. A Medical Request Form was issued for examination and treatment at the Magburuka Government hospital.

In his Allocutus, convict Bobby Sesay pleaded for mercy, “I’m sorry I won’t do it again.”

Hon. Justice Mohamed Bawoh sentenced Bobby Sesay to ten years imprisonment.
