The Judiciary of Sierra Leone regrets to announce the passing away ofthe Resident High Court Judge, Kenema District, Honourable Justice Aggrey Albert Aruna which sad event took place on Monday, 11th September, 2023. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
In honour of his remarkable and dedicated service to the Judiciary and the legal profession, the Honourable Chief Justice has ordered that the flag of the Judiciary be flown at half-mast since the 12th day of September, 2023 as a sign of respect to this illustrious son of the soil.
The Late Honourable Justice Aggrey Albert Aruna was appointed as a High Court Judge on 11th December, 2020.
He was born in Bo town where he started his secondary education at the Christ the King College. In 1986, he sat to the GCE ‘O’ Level.
To pursue his Advanced Level (A Level) certificate, he enrolled at the Government Secondary School popularly known as K-School and graduated with an excellent result to pursue his Bachelor of Arts with Honours at the Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
His desire to join the legal profession motivated him to gain admission again into the same University where he graduated in 2000 with Bachelor of Laws (LLB Honours). In 2001 he was admitted to the Sierra Leone Law School where he was certified Barrister at Law by the Council of Legal Education.
The Late Honourable Justice Aruna was a teacher at the West African Methodist Collegiate School before he was called to the Bar in 2002. He provided legal services as a Consultant for Welt Hunger Hilfe and as a Legal Retainer for the National Social Security Trust (NASSIT) and the Sierra Leone Produce Marketing Board among many others.
The Judiciary mourns the death of an esteemed colleague whose humility and dedication to service would be sorely missed.
